Ingredients

 
1 1/2 pounds ground beef
 
1 large onion, chopped (about 1 cup)
 
2 stalks celery, sliced (about 1 cup)
 
1 can (28 ounces) whole tomatoes, undrained
 
2 1/2 cups water
 
1 cup uncooked barley
 
1 tablespoon chili powder
 
1 teaspoon salt
 
1/4 teaspoon pepper

Directions

Cook and stir ground beef, onion and celery in 4-quart Dutch oven over medium heat until beef is brown; drain.
Stir in remaining ingredients.
Break up tomatoes with fork.
Heat to boiling; reduce heat.
Cover and simmer until barley is done and stew is desired consistency, about 1 hour.
