Ingredients

 
1 pound dried kidney beans
 
6 cups water
 
1 pound smoked ham hocks
 
2 teaspoons salt
 
2 tablespoons sugar
 
2 teaspoons chili powder
 
2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
 
1 cup dry Burgundy
 
1 8-ounce can tomato sauce
 
1 onion, chopped

Directions

Soak beans overnight in water in the slow cooker.
Do not drain.
Cover and cook on high for 2 to 3 hours, until tender.
Drain; reserve liquid.
Add remaining ingredients and enough reserved liquid (about 3/4 cup) to barely cover beans.
Cover and cook for10 to 12 hours on low.
Remove ham, chop it, and return meat to beans.
Serve hot.
