I hope those beans weren't canned! Makes such a difference to soak and cook your dry beans. That tinny back lash taste is so dreadful. Since you have gone to the trouble of using fresh good ingredients I am going to "guess" those were NOT canned beans. Recipe is very nice. I'd add some capsicums (powdered or minced fresh ripe red such as serranos) as we do love heat to balance the sweetness.
