Banana Chips Recipe

Banana chips are called Kaaya Upperi in Malyalam, official language of the state of Kerala from where the chips originate. The chips are served as a part of meal for Onam festival.They are placed on the left side corner of the Plaintain Leaf along with other dishes(Meals are traditionally served on the plantain leaf in Kerala). Banana Chips are easy to make and relished by adults and kids alike.

Recipe Story

It is one of my favorite chip since childhood. I love the crunch which it creates in the first bite. They are readily available in Indian stores but I love to prepare them rather than buy.

Ingredients

 Frying Oil2 Cup (16 tbs) (For frying)
 Large unripe Plantains- 2 medium
 Salt1/4 Teaspoon

Directions

Remove the skin of the plantains.
Cut into halves.
Slice the banana using a chip slicer.
Take oil in a frying pan.
Heat the oil to boiling hot, add the sliced plantains to it.
Fry until crisp.
Tossing over to fry the other side.
Fry until it is crunchy and fully cooked.
Sprinkle with salt and serve.
