Banana Cake Recipe

Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1 1/4 cups sugar
2 eggs, beaten
2 cups flour
1/2 cup sour milk or buttermilk
3/4 teaspoon soda
3/4 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup mashed bananas
1/3 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions
Cream shortening.
Add sugar gradually and continue to beat until fluffy.
Add beaten eggs and vanilla and beat until light.
Sift together the dry ingredients and add alternately with the milk, bananas and nuts.
Pour into two greased layer cake pans about 9x9 inches or into one cake pan about 13x9 inches.
Bake at 350 degrees.
Layer cakes will need to be baked for about thirty minutes, the larger cake about forty-five minutes.
