Directions
Melt butter in small saucepan. Cool. Pour off clear butter oil for use on filo. Discard milk solids. Mix walnuts and almonds together. Mix cinnamon and cloves together. Prepare filo according to package directions. Line baking pan with filo and brush with butter oil. It is important that the filo be completely covered with butter to prevent its drying out. Sprinkle filo with nut mixture, then with spice mixture. Repeat, alternating layers of filo, nuts, and spices, using two sheets of filo per layer and brushing each layer of filo thoroughly with butter. Top with 3 to 5 sheets of filo. Cut into squares or diamonds with a very sharp knife. Bake for 1 hour. Prepare Syrup (below) and cool. Pour half of the cool syrup over hot baklava. Cool for 1 hour and cover with remaining syrup.
