Directions

Sift flour, baking powder and salt into mixing bowl.
Cut in shortening with pastry blender or 2 knives until mixture has texture of quick-cooking oatmeal.
Add milk; stir with fork to make soft dough.
An extra tablespoon of milk may be used if mixture seems too stiff.
Place on lightly floured board, and knead gently 8—10 times.
Roll or pat dough to desired thickness, and cut with floured cutter.
Pat leftover dough together, and cut again.
Place biscuits on ungreased baking sheet, close together for soft-sided biscuits or about 1 inch apart for crusty ones.
Bake 12—15 minutes at 450°F.
Makes 18—20 biscuits (approximately 1 3/4 inches in diameter).
