Baked Stuffed Cabbage Recipe
The baked stuffed cabbage is a lovely stuffed cabbage recipe made with bacon and cheese. The seasoned stuffing is also flavored with onions and pimientos. Served as a side with rice or spaghetti, the baked stuffed cabbage is delicious and very savory indeed.
Ingredients
1 (2-pound) fresh green cabbage
4 slices bacon
1 tablespoon chopped fresh onion
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
Salt and freshly ground pepper to taste
1 cup milk
1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
2 tablespoons chopped pimiento stuffed olives
Directions
Hollow out center of cabbage; leave shell about 1/2 inch thick.
Set shell aside; chop remaining cabbage coarsely.
Fry bacon in skillet until crisp; remove from skillet.
Drain on paper towels.
Pour off all but 3 tablespoons drippings; add onion.
Saute until tender.
Blend in flour; season with salt and pepper.
Add milk gradually; cook, stirring constantly, until thickened.
Stir in cheese until melted; remove from heat.
Mix sauce with chopped cabbage; crumble bacon over top.
Add olives; blend well.
Place cabbage shell on large piece of aluminum foil; spoon cheese mixture into shell.
Wrap loosely; place on baking dish.
Bake in preheated 350°F oven 30 minutes.
