Trim excess fat from ham steaks and put them in a large greased baking dish (big enough to hold them in a single layer, 13 X 9 1/2 X 2 inches).
Drain pineapple tidbits and measure out 2/3 cup of the juice.
Pour juice over steaks.
Bake 30 minutes, basting steaks with pineapple juice often.
Drain remaining fruit.
Remove baking pan from oven and lay pear halves, peach halves and pineapple tidbits on top of steaks.
Sprinkle cherries over all.
Combine butter, sugar and curry powder and drop mixture by spoonfuls on top of fruit.
Return to oven and continue baking about 20 minutes more, basting often.
Serve pieces of ham steak topped with fruit.
Add almond rice to plates and spoon some of liquid from baking dish over ham and rice.
