Combine sugar, eggs, salt and vanilla in large mixing bowl; beat well.

Pour custard into eight 5-ounce custard cups; place cups in shallow pan in hot water 1 inch deep.
Sprinkle custard with mace.
Bake at 325 degrees for 45 minutes or until knife inserted in center comes out clean.
