Ingredients

 
1/4 cup butter or margarine
 
1 cup sugar, divided
 
3 tablespoons flour
 
6 tablespoons cocoa
 
3 eggs, separated
 
1 teaspoon vanilla
 
2 cups milk
 
1 9-inch unbaked pie shell

Directions

Cream together butter and 1/2 cup of the sugar.
Stir in flour and cocoa.
Add egg yolks separately, beating well after each addition.
Stir in vanilla and milk.
Beat egg whites until stiff.
Gradually beat in remaining 1/3 cup of the sugar and continue beating until egg whites stand in peaks.
Fold whites into choco- late mixture and turn into unbaked pie shell.
Bake in a hot oven (425° F) 15 minutes, then reduce heat to low (325° F) and con- tinue baking 30 minutes or until firm to the touch.
Makes one 9-inch pie.
