Arrange meaty side up in a large shallow baking pan.
Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
Bake in a 350° F oven for 1 hour.
Meanwhile mix cornstarch with sugar in a small saucepan.
Add wine, pineapple and soy sauce and bring to a boil, stirring.
Spoon rice into a shallow buttered casserole.
Arrange spareribs on top.
Spoon half of sauce over spareribs and rice.
Continue baking 15 minutes.
Spoon over remaining sauce and bake 15 minutes longer.
