Molasses Baked Beans Recipe
Ingredients
| Great northern beans | 8 Ounce | |
| Onion | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| 2 slices turkey bacon, cut up | ||
| 1/4 cup molasses or maple-flavored syrup | ||
| Brown sugar | 2 Tablespoon | |
| Dry mustard | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| Pepper | 1/8 Teaspoon | |
| Boston Brown Bread | ||
Directions
Rinse beans; drain.
In a large saucepan combine the beans and 4 cups water.
Bring to boil, reduce heat.
Simmer, uncovered for 2 minutes.
Remove from heat.
Cover and let stand for 1 hour.
Drain and rinse beans.
In the same pan combine beans and 4 cups fresh water.
Bring to boil, reduce heat.
Cover and simmer about 1 1/4 hours or till the beans are tender, stirring occasionally.
Drain beans, reserving liquid.
In a 1 1/2-quart casserole or bean pot stir together the beans, onion and turkey bacon.
Stir in 1/2 cup of the reserved bean liquid, the molasses or maple-flavored syrup, brown sugar, dry mustard, salt and pepper.
Bake, covered in a 300° oven about 2 hours or to desired consistency, stirring occasionally.
If necessary, add additional reserved bean liquid.
If desired, serve the beans with Boston Brown Bread.
