Aunt Madge's Nutty Caramels Recipe
Ingredients
| Sugar | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Light corn syrup | 2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Butter | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Sweetened condensed milk | 1 Can (10oz) | |
| Walnuts | 2 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
| Vanilla extract | 1 Teaspoon |
Directions
Combine the sugar, corn syrup, butter and condensed milk in a heavy 8 quart kettle over medium heat.
Cook, stirring constantly with a large wooden spoon to prevent sticking or burning.
Bring to a full rolling boil, and cook to 242 degrees on a candy thermometer.
Remove from heat.
Stir in the walnuts and vanilla.
Pour into a heavily greased 9x13 inch baking dish.
Let stand for 2 hours or until cool.
Cut into pieces of desired size, perhaps 3/4 x 1 inch.
Wrap each piece separately in a square of waxed paper, twisting the ends closed.
