When spinning a thread in the sugar, water and karo mixture, make sure the thread spins as fine as angel hair or your candy will not harden properly. In fact, you'll notice the thread will almost float away in the heat as it rises from the mixture.

3 CUPS SUGAR
 
3 CUPS RAW PEANUTS
 
1 CUP LIGHT KARO SYRUP
 
1 TABLESPOON SODA
 
1/2 CUP WATER
 
1 TEASPOON SALT

Directions

Cook sugar, water and karo until mixture spins a thread, add peanuts and and cook slow, without much stirring until mixture turns light tan and peanuts begin to crackle and pop, then take them off heat and add soda. Stir quickly and often. Spread thin in a buttered platter. DO NOT pack or smooth mixture. Cool. Break in to pieces.
