Ingredients

 
2 tbsp (30 mL) butter
 
2 tbsp (30 mL) almonds, sliced and blanched
 
1 lb (500 g) fresh asparagus or 1 10-oz (300 g) package frozen cut asparagus
 
1/2 cup (125 mL) celery, sliced diagonally
 
1 5-oz (142 g) can water chestnuts, drained and sliced (optional)
 
1 tbsp (15 mL) soy sauce

Directions

€¢ Place the butter and almonds in a 4-cup (1 L) microwave-safe casserole.
€¢ Microwave at HIGH, uncovered, 2 to 3 minutes or until almonds are golden brown, stirring a few times during the cooking period.
€¢ Remove almonds with a perforated spoon, set aside.
€¢ To butter remaining in dish, add fresh or frozen asparagus, iced side up, if frozen, celery and well-drained and sliced water chestnuts.
€¢ Microwave, covered, at HIGH 7 to 8 minutes, stirring twice during last half of cooking.
€¢ Stir in soy sauce and almonds.
€¢ Cover, let stand 10 minutes.
