12 oz canned asparagus tips, drained
3 tbsp butter
1 tbsp all purpose flour
1 1/2 cups milk
Salt and pepper
1/3 cup Emmenthal cheese, grated
1 tbsp bread crumbs
Pinch of nutmeg
1/4 tsp thyme
Directions
Preheat oven to 400 °F (205 °C).
In a baking dish, arrange asparagus.
Set aside.
In a skillet, melt 1 tbsp (15 mL) butter.
Sprinkle with flour.
While stirring, cook 2 minutes.
Fold in milk.
Stirring constantly, continue cooking 6 minutes until sauce is creamy smooth.
Season.
Pour sauce over asparagus.
Dot with remaining butter.
Top with cheese, then bread crumbs.

Cook in oven 20 minutes or until cheese and bread crumbs make a golden crust.
