Applesauce Loaf Recipe
The apple sauce loaf is flavorful and lovely baked loaf made with applesauce and and flour. Spiced with nutmeg and cinnamon along wih the crunch of walnuts, the applesauce loaf is a lovely accompaniment to meals and can be served as dessert with a fruit sauce.
Ingredients
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cups sifted enriched flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 cup sweetened applesauce
1/2 cup chopped California walnuts
Directions
Stir shortening to soften; gradually add sugar, creaming till light.
Add eggs; beat till light and fluffy.
Sift together dry ingredients; add to creamed mixture alternately with applesauce, beating after each addition; stir in nuts.
Pour into paper lined 9 1/2x5x3 inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350°.about 1 hour.
Cool in pan 10 minutes; remove.
While still warm, spread top with Sugar Glaze: Combine 1/2 cup sifted confectioners' sugar and 1 tablespoon water.
Add eggs; beat till light and fluffy.
