Ingredients

 Ground beef1 pound (Meat Loaf:)
 1/2 pound pork sausage
 1/2 cup dry bread or cracker crumbs
 Beer1/2 Cup (16 tbs) (Meat Loaf:)
 Onion1 Small, minced (Meat Loaf:)
 1 egg, slightly beaten
 Salt1/2 Teaspoon (Meat Loaf:)
 1/4 teaspoon each sage, thyme, and garlic powder
 Pepper1/8 Teaspoon (Meat Loaf:)
 Applesauce1 1/3 Cup (16 tbs) (Topping and Sauce:)
 Beer1/4 Cup (16 tbs) (Topping and Sauce:)

Directions

1. For meat loaf, mix ingredients. Shape into an elongated loaf. Place in a shallow roasting pan.
2. Bake at 350°F 50 minutes.
3. Spoon fat from pan. Spread 1/3 cup applesauce over meat loaf. Bake 10 minutes longer.
4. For sauce, heat 1 cup applesauce and beer to simmering; serve over meat loaf slices.
