Applesauce Cake Recipe

Ingredients
1 1/2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1 egg
1 cup applesauce
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup nuts, chopped
Pinch of salt
1 cup raisins
1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
Directions
Sift together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and cloves.
Set aside.
Work shortening until soft, then stir in sugar, a little at a time, working the mixture until smooth.
Beat in the egg vigorously.
Alternately stir in flour mixture and applesauce.
Then add nuts, raisins, and dates.
Pour batter into a greased loaf pan and bake in a preheated 350° oven for 50 to 60 minutes or until cake pulls away from sides of pan.
Cool several minutes before turning out onto a cake rack.
