Sprinkle with salt.
Mash apple jelly with a fork, then add wine gradually.
Brush this mixture on both sides of chicken halves.
Place chicken, skin side down, in broiler pan (without rack).
Broil 6 to 9 inches from the heat for 30 minutes.
Then turn skin side up and continue broiling until chicken is evenly browned and cooked, about 20 minutes longer.
Cut each half into quarters for serving.
