Ingredients
1 recipe pastry
5 cups pared, sliced apples
3/4 cup sugar
1/4teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 tablespoon flour
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 tablespoon butter or margarine
Topping:
1 tablespoon shortening
1 tablespoon sugar
3 tablespoons flour
1/4 teaspoon salt
Directions
Line a 9-inch pie plate with one-half the pastry.
Combine apples with sugar, cinnamon, salt, flour and lemon juice.
Place in pastry lined pie plate.
Dot the top with butter.
Cover with top crust.
Mix topping ingredients of shortening, sugar, flour and salt until crumbly.
Sprinkle over top of pie.
Bake in a hot oven (425° F) about 10 minutes; reduce temperature to 350° F and continue baking about 25 to 30 minutes or until apples are tender and crust is browned.
Makes one 9-inch pie.
