4 large tart cooking apples, Lemon juice (optional)
 
1/2 cup flour
 
1/2 cup rolled oats
 
1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
 
1/2 cup butter or margarine

Directions

Peel and core apples, and place in greased shallow baking dish.
If apples are dry and not at their prime flavor, sprinkle with a little lemon juice.
Combine flour, rolled oats and sugar, and-blend in butter or margarine (with 2 knives or with fingers).
Mixture will have rough, crumbly 'appearance.
Cover apples with this topping, and bake, uncovered, at 375 °F. 30—40 minutes or until fruit is quite tender and top crisp and nicely browned.
Serve warm with cream or ice cream.
