Apple cake Recipe
One of the tasty cakes, can be served warm or cold, with or without ice cream

Ingredients
3 tbsp softened butter
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt (I didn't add)
1/2 tsp ground cinnamon (I added 1/4 tsp)
1/2 tsp ground nutmeg (I added 1/4 tsp)
3 cups peeled and chopped apples
1/4 cup walnuts
whipped cream or ice cream (optional)
Directions
In a large mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
Beat in egg and vanilla.
Combine the flour, salt, baking soda, cinnamon and nutmeg.
Add to creamed mixture. (Batter will be thick and sticky)
Stir in apples and nuts. Mix well.
Spread into a greased baking dish.
Bake in a preheated oven at 350 degrees for 35-45 minutes or until a toothpich inserted in the center comes out clean. (For me it took 45 minutes)
Serve warm or cold, with or without ice cream.

i've few queries
1) can we use baking powder instead of baking soda
2) is vanilla extract same as vanilla essence
3) shud the apple pieces be finely chopped
4) in the pic shown, what hv u put on the top of the cake...

Hi Shalini! Baking powder and baking soda are different, but the purpose they serve is almost the same. I often substitute one for the other or even use a combination of both, depending on the food i cook. About vanilla extract and essence, what I have understood is both are the same. The rest I think the chef will only have to answer! Tk cr.
