3 tart juicy apples, peeled and cut in twelfths
 
1/4 cup raisins
 
3 tablespoons water or apple juice, Pastry for single-crust pie (unpricked)
 
2 tablespoons flour
 
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
 
1/4 cup soft butter
 
1/4 cup corn syrup
 
1 egg, beaten
 
1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions

Place apples, raisins and water in a saucepan, and cover.
Steam-cook until apples are just tender, 3—5 minutes depending on variety.
Scrape into unbaked pie shell, and spread evenly.
Combine remaining ingredients, and pour over the apples.
Bake at 450°F. 20 minutes; then reduce heat to 350 °F., and bake 25—30 minutes longer or until butter filling is set.
Cool before serving, just as you would for butter tarts, and serve with ice cream or whipped cream.
