Ingredients

 
2 cans (1 pound, 4 ounces each) pie sliced apples, drained
 
1/2 cup firmly packed brown sugar
 
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
 
3/4 cup (1 1/2 sticks) butter or margarine, melted
 
3 envelopes maple and brown sugar flavor instant oatmeal (from a 13 ounce package)
 
2 cups cubed bread

Directions

Combine apples, brown sugar and cinnamon in a large bowl; toss lightly to mix.
Drizzle melted butter or margarine over oatmeal in a medium size bowl; toss with a fork until well blended; measure out 1/2 cup and set aside.
Add remainder to apple mixture with bread cubes; toss lightly.
Spoon into a baking dish, 8x8x2; sprinkle the 1/2 cup oatmeal mixture over top.
Bake in moderate oven (375°) for 30 minutes, or until puffed and golden.
Spoon into dessert dishes; serve warm with cream or ice cream, if you wish.
