Apple and Pear Tart Recipe

Ingredients
Crust
1. 1 1/3 cup all purpose flour
2. 1 large egg yolk
3. 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
4. 7 tablespoons cold butter, cut into 1/2-inch pieces
5. 1/4 teaspoon ground mace
6. 2 tablespoons ice water
7. 3 tablespoons sugar
8. 1/4 teaspoon salt
Filling
1. 1/2 cup slivered almonds, toasted
2. 2 large Golden Delicious apples, peeled and cut in thick wedges
3. 1 1/2 teaspoons grated lemon peel
4. 1 1/2 tablespoons butter
5. 1/4 teaspoon ground mace
6. 2 Bartlett pears, peeled, and cut into 1/2-inch-thick wedges
7. 1/2 cup sugar
Directions
Preheat oven to 375°F.
Chop silvered almonds in a processor and spread it in the bottom of crust.
In a large bowl combine well apples and pears in large bowl.
Mix sugar, grated lemon peel and ground mace in another bowl.
Use the half of the sugar mixture to toss the apples and pears and pile into crust.
Use the remaining sugar mixture to sprinkle over fruit. Grace with a tablespoon of butter.
Bake in the oven for about 1 hour or until the crust is brown. Allow to cool

I had to improv quite a bit...spilt lemon juice and orange peel instead of lemon peel and nutmeg instead of mace and vodka instead of ice water (not necessary, but keeps things from sticking together) It turned out wonderfully! There aren't any instructions for the crust, so I hoped that I had it right, but all was well in the end.
