Ingredients
6 oz plain flour
1 1/2 oz margarine
1 1/2 oz lard
2 oz brown sugar
1 1/2 lb cooking apples
4 oz caster sugar
2 tablespoons water
Directions
Sift the flour into a bowl and add the fat cut in small pieces.
Rub in with the fingertips until the mixture resembles fine breadcrumbs.
Stir in the brown sugar.
Peel, core and slice the apples and put in layers into a 1 3/4 pint (1-1) pie dish with the caster sugar and water.
Pile the crumble on top so that it completely covers the apples and bake in the oven for about 45 minutes until the fruit is cooked and the crumble golden brown.
If using cooked apple bake for 30 minutes.
