Directions

MAKING
1. Peel and core the apples, using the apple peeler core or a sharp paring knife, roughly chop them into dices and place in a large pot along with brown sugar, cinnamon and apple juice. Stir all the ingredients well.
2. Now place the pot on medium high heat, and allow the juice to come to a simmer. When bubbles begin to appear, set your timer for 20 minutes. Reduce the heat to medium and cook the apples, with the lid half covering the pot.
3. After 20 minutes turn off the heat. Let the apples sit for some time then mash them with the help of a potato masher. The texture can be as per your liking. You can also puree them in a food processor if you want a smooth sauce.

SERVING
4. You can serve the homemade apple sauce with any pork dish or with pancakes or desserts.

TIPS
Use sweet apples like yellow delicious, fuji, or gala to name a few but stay away from red delicious. They are not as good and can be a bit mealy.

If you use the tart apples like Granny smith, or pippin or graven stein, you will have to add quite a bit more sugar to get it sweet enough.
