 Egg1 , beaten
 1 cup shredded, raw peeled apple, firmly packed
 3/4 cup sour milk or buttermilk
 Molasses2 Tablespoon
 Shortening1/4 Cup (16 tbs), melted
 All purpose flour1 3/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 tsp each, baking powder, soda and salt
 Brown sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Rolled oats1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 1/2 cup raisins or chopped nuts (optional)

Directions

Combine first five ingredients.
Sift next four ingredients together, then stir in sugar, oats and raisins.
Add liquid ingredients all at once and stir until mixture is blended.
Scrape into a greased loaf pan and bake at 350F for 50 to 60 minutes.
Cool, then wrap to slice the next day.
