Directions

Combine flour, baking powder, salt, sugar, and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon; make a well in center of dry ingredients.
Beat egg until light; add milk, shortening, and apple.
Pour liquid into well and stir until dry ingredients are moistened.
Do not overbeat.
Fill muffin pans one-half full.
Combine brown sugar, nuts, and 1/2 tea spoon cinnamon; sprinkle over muffin batter.
Bake at 425° for 20 to 25 minutes.
