 Ground cinnamon
 Skim milk
 Sugar1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Cornstarch2 Teaspoon
1/2 cup apple juice or apple cider
 Vanilla2 Teaspoon

Directions

For pastry, in a small mixing bowl stir together flour and salt.
Using a pastry blender, cut in the shortening till pieces are the size of fine crumbs.
Sprinkle 1 tablespoon of the water over part of the mixture; gently toss with a fork.
Push moistened dough to side of bowl.
Repeat, using 1 tablespoon of the remaining water at a time, till all dough is moistened.
Form dough into a ball and divide into 4 equal portions.
Roll each portion to an 1/8-inch thick circle.
Place the apples in a 9x9x2-inch baking pan.
Sprinkle apples lightly with ground cinnamon.
Place one pastry round atop each apple, pinching the pastry to fit around, but not underneath, the apple.
Brush the pastry with a little skim milk and sprinkle lightly with additional ground cinnamon.
Bake in a 375° oven for 35 minutes or till the apples are tender and the pastry is browned.
Meanwhile, for syrup, in a small saucepan combine sugar and cornstarch.
Stir in the apple juice or apple cider.
Cook and stir till thickened and bubbly.
Cook and stir for 2 minutes more.
Remove from the heat and stir in the vanilla and margarine.
