Home Made Apple Dumpling Recipe

Add the butter and fat and cut into small pieces.
Rub the fat into the flour until the mixture resembles breadcrumbs.
Stir in enough water to bind the mixture and knead to a dough.
Chill for 20 minutes.
Roll out the dough and cut into six squares large enough to enclose the apples.
Reserve some of the dough for decoration.
Place one apple on each dough square and fill the centre cavity of the apple with sugar, lemon rind and a clove.
Brush the edges of the squares with water or milk and bring the dough up around the apple to enclose it and seal the edges.
Decorate with the reserved dough, cut into leaves.
Brush with the milk and sprinkle with the sugar.
Bake on a baking sheet in a hot oven (200°C/400°F or Gas Mark 6) for 30 minutes.
