Apple Crunch Recipe
Ingredients
| 3 pounds cooking apples | ||
| 2/3 cup plus 1/4 cup granulated sugar | ||
| Water | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Whole Cloves | 6 | |
| Cinnamon sticks | 2 | |
| Butter stick | 1 , softened | |
| 1 1/2 cups flour sifted with a pinch of baking soda and 2 tablespoons ground ginger | ||
| Light brown sugar | 1/4 Cup (16 tbs) | |
Directions
1. Peel, core, and slice the apples. Combine with 2/3 cup sugar, water, cloves, and cinnamon and cook until soft. Cool, cover, and refrigerate.
2. Chip the butter into the flour mixture. Crumble with the tips of the fingers until the mixture resembles cornmeal. Add the light brown sugar and the remaining granulated sugar and continue to crumble.
3. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
4. Remove the cloves and cinnamon sticks from the apples and spread the apples over the bottom of a 1 1/2-quart ovenproof dish. Smooth gently but do not pack tight. Spread the topping evenly over the apples, but do not press down. Bake for 30 minutes. Serve at room temperature.
