Ingredients

 Butter/Margarine1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Firmly packed brown sugar1/2 Cup (16 tbs)

 1/2 cup dark molasses
 All purpose flour2 Cup (16 tbs)
 1 1/2 cups graham flour or whole wheat flour
 Wheat germ1/2 Cup (16 tbs)
 Baking soda2 Teaspoon
 1 teaspoon each baking powder and salt
 Buttermilk2 Cup (16 tbs)
 2 cups finely chopped, unpeeled, tart apples
 Walnuts1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped

Directions

In a large bowl, beat together butter and brown sugar until light and creamy.
Beat in egg; then stir in molasses until blended.
In another bowl, stir together all purpose flour, graham flour, wheat germ, baking soda, baking powder, and salt until thoroughly blended.
Add dry ingredients alternately with buttermilk to creamed mixture; after each addition mix just until blended.
Stir in apples and nuts.
Spoon batter into 2 greased and flour dusted 4 by 8 inch loaf pans.
Bake in a 350° oven for about 1 1/2 hours or until bread begins to pull away from sides of pans and a wooden skewer inserted in center comes out clean.
Let cool in pans for 10 minutes; then turn out onto a rack to cool completely.
