Apple Balls Recipe

Ingredients
2 cups sifted all purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
10 tablespoons butter
4 to 5 tablespoons cold water
8 sweet apples, peeled and cored
2 tablespoons sugar
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/4 cup raisins
2 tablespoons butter
1 egg, lightly beaten
Directions
Combine the flour and salt in a bowl.
Cut the butter into the flour with a pastry blender or 2 knives until the mixture resembles coarse meal.
Stir the water in with a fork.
Add only as much as is necessary to make the dough stick together.
Wrap the dough in waxed paper and refrigerate for 1 hour.
Roll the dough into a rectangle on a floured board.
Cut into 8 squares each large enough to enclose an apple.
Center an apple on each square of pastry.
Combine the sugar, cinnamon and raisins and stuff each apple with a little of the mixture.
Dot the top with butter and gather the pastry up around the apple.
Pinch the edges together to seal.
Brush each apple ball with beaten egg.
Place on a buttered baking sheet and bake in a preheated 375° oven for 25 minutes or until golden brown.
