Ingredients

 Split red gram 150 gm.
 Onion50 Gram (For 4)
 Mustard seeds2 Gram (For 4)
 Turmeric2 Gram (For 4)
 Chilli powder2 Gram (For 4)
 Green chillies4 (For 4)
 Tamarind4 Gram (For 4)
 Jaggery2 Gram (For 4)
 Garam masala2 Gram (For 4)
 Oil30 Milliliter (For 4)
 Salt To Taste (For 4)
 Water1.5 Liter (For 4)

Directions

1. Clean, wash and soak the gram for half an hour and cook till soft. [Water amount (a) if chapaties are to be served with Amti; otherwise as given in (b).
2. Heat oil and add mustard seeds; when they crackle add slit green chillies and chopped onion. When the onion is tender add chilli powder, turmeric and garam masala.
3. Add the cooked gram, bring to boil, add tamarind juice, jaggery and salt.
