American Applesauce Cake Recipe
Ingredients
| Shortening | 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Firmly packed light brown sugar | 1 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Applesauce | 1 Cup (16 tbs), canned | |
| All purpose flour | 2 1/2 Cup (16 tbs) | |
| Baking soda | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Salt | 1/2 Teaspoon | |
| Baking powder | 1 Teaspoon | |
| 3/4 teaspoon apple-pie spice | ||
| Nuts | 1 Cup (16 tbs), chopped | |
Directions
Cream shortening; add sugar gradually, beating until light and fluffy.
Add applesauce.
Sift together dry ingredients and add to creamed mixture.
Fold in nuts.
Pour into loaf pan (9x5x3 inches) lined on the bottom with greased wax paper.
Bake in preheated slow oven (325°F.) for about 1 hour.
Cool for 5 minutes.
Turn out on rack and peel off paper.
Cool, and frost as desired.
