Alphabet Biscuits Recipe
Ingredients
| 100 g/4 oz margarine or butter, softened | ||
| 100 g/4 oz icing sugar | ||
| Grated rind of 1 lemon | ||
| 175 g/6 oz plain flour | ||
Directions
Lightly grease three baking trays.
Cream the fat with the icing sugar until very soft, light and fluffy, then beat in the lemon rind.
Sift the flour into a bowl, then gradually work it into the creamed mixture - the resulting paste should be just soft enough to pipe.
Spoon the mixture into a piping bag fitted with a medium sized star nozzle.
Pipe 7.5 cm/3 in letters or numerals on to the prepared baking trays.
Chill them for 30 minutes, or longer if you have time.
Bake the letters in a moderate oven (180C, 350F, gas 4) for 10-15 minutes, or until lightly browned.
Allow the biscuits to cool on the trays for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
