Recipe Story

There are many ways that you can prepare Teriyaki sauce. The easiest of which is by purchasing specialty sauces in stores in your area. But this would also mean that the ready made sauce may contain ingredients that may not be healthy for the body such as preservatives. Here are four variations:

Ingredients

Original Japanese Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients (cf. <a href="http://www.teriyakichicken.net/recipes/sauces-and-marinades/">here</a>)
 Â½ cup mirin or sake
 Soy sauce1 Cup (16 tbs)
 White sugar1/4 Cup (16 tbs)
 Rice vinegar1 1/2 Tablespoon
 Sesame oil1 Teaspoon
 Garlic2 Clove (5gm), minced
 Ginger1/2 Tablespoon, minced
 Ground pepper1/4 Teaspoon

Directions

Boil mirin in a pan then pour in soy sauce, sugar, and rice vinegar. Stir while adding garlic, ginger, and pepper. Continue stirring until the sauce starts to thicken. Turn off the heat and add in the sesame oil. This recipe would be a great sauce to pour onto grilled or broiled meats.

Korean Style Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients

½ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons minced garlic
2 tablespoons minced ginger
¼ cup onions, sliced thinly
2 tablespoons honey
2 teaspoons sesame oil
2 teaspoons sesame seeds

Boil the soy sauce, garlic, ginger, and onions together. Add in the honey and sesame oil. Allow the mixture to cool. On a separate pan, toast the sesame seeds, then sprinkle on top of the sauce. A Korean style sauce may be used as a marinade or dip. If this would be used to top meat, you can sprinkle the sesame seeds right before serving.

Easy to make Teriyaki Sauce Ingredients

½ cup soy sauce
¼ cup mirin or sake
2 tablespoon brown sugar

Simply combine all these in a small pan and allow the sugar to be dissolved. This would help thicken the sauce which would be good to serve anytime. You can keep this in the refrigerator in an air tight container.
Teriyaki Sauce Marinade Ingredients

½ cup soy sauce
½ cup mirin or sake
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons minced garlic
2 teaspoons minced ginger
½ teaspoon ground pepper
¼ cup soda

In a mixing bowl, combine all the ingredients until the sugar dissolves. Place the meat that you will be marinating and cover the container. Refrigerate for at least two hours. Remove the meat from the marinade. Heat the remaining marinade in a saucepan until it boils and thickens. You can use this as a sauce for dipping or for basting while grilling.
