The American Samoa police is charging two of its officers with a bizarre crime - that of sending the jail inmates under their command on unsupervised shopping trips. The two officers are accused of sending the prisoners to buy beer and other things from the market.
The officers are, Fiti Aina and Rocky Tua, are charged with not only helping a prisoner to escape but also employing corrupt practices in public service.
The crime came to light at the Tafuna Correctional Facility, where a surprise visit revealed an alcoholic beverage in one of the cells. After further investigation, it was found that the jail inmates were being sent out of the prison to buy beer and other items for themselves as well as the officers.
Thus, a perfectly happy arrangement was brought to an end and now the officers are awaiting their sentence.
