Tuna Quiche, Ham Quiche, Spinach Quiche!!! Who doesn’t like Quiche? This yummy treat is hard to resist, easy to prepare, a delight to consume and keeps well in the freezer but the dilemma arises when you face the question....
how to heat a frozen quiche? A reasonable confusion arises, given that the quiche can usually have other than the main ingredient..egg..a mixture of cheeses, seafood, vegetables or meat. How then can we make sure that this mixture of ingredients can be reheated safely, such that there is no loss of quality!!! Here is how:
A quiche has an egg mixture made with any of the above mentioned ingredients or a combination of them which is then poured on to a dough base and baked. The baked quiche will have a yummy pie crust and is usually served after being sliced into equal sized wedges.
Before we talk about reheating the quiche there is something you should know about freezing the quiche. If you want your quiche to remain fresh even when reheating you have to ensure that you
have stored them well. They should be popped into the freezer
only after they have cooled down well and then
sealed with plastic wraps.
When you want to use your quiche, remove it from freezer and
defrost it by keeping it in the refrigerator overnight. When defrosting if you notice
moisture under the plastic wrap then remove the wrap and
place a paper towel on the quiche and then replace the wrap. The paper towel will absorb the moisture and thus prevent the quiche crust from getting soggy.
Now preheat your
oven to 350 to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
Take the defrosted quiche, remove the plastic wrap and
slice the quiche into individual portions. Slicing and then reheating the quiche will ensure that the
quiche is cooked first in the center and then the edges and not vice versa.
Now place the quiche slices on to a baking sheet that is already placed on a baking pan. Insert an oven thermometer into the center of the quiche and heat it in the oven for
15 to 20 minutes or until the thermometer reads
165 Fahrenheit. At this temperature any food borne illness causing bacteria will die.
Serve the quiche
as soon as it is heated as letting it stand for long after reheating can inevitable lead to tough or soggy crust.
Tips Never reheat your quiche in the microwave, unless you want quiche that has a soft crust has lost its flaky texture and will be heated unevenly such that some parts of the quiche will be hot and cooked while other parts will be still cold.
Always
reheat the quiche within three days from the day it was made if you want to consume fresh quiche.
