Turkish Delight is a confectionary item that belongs to Turkey. Although produced in Turkey since the 15th century, Turkish Delight or Lokum was popularized in the West in the 19th century. Turkish delight recipes are simple; starch and sugar being combined with water to prepare the sweets which are flavored with lemon, rose water and mastic. The sweets are dusted with icing sugar as they are adhesive in texture. Turkish Delight is hugely popular in the United Kingdom and Europe; and is also known in America and Canada as the basic ingredient for the Big Turk Chocolate.
