History of Tom and Jerry Cocktail

Tom and Jerry drink was contrived by a person named  Pierce Egan, a sports writer during the 1820s. Though the name sounds similar to the cartoon Tom and Jerry, it does not have any reference to the same. Nor it has any reference to the author of one of the foremost guides of a bartender, How to Mix Drinks (1862) "Professor" Jerry Thomas. Rather Tom and Jerry drink has a reference to the book Life in London by Egan or else the book The Day and Night Scenes of Jerry Hawthorn Esq. and his Elegant Friend Corinthian Tom (1821) and the following stage play Tom and Jerry or the play Life in London. The drink also has many literary references.
