Steven Raichlen is a chef, cookbook writer, cooking instructor and television presenter from America.

 

 

Professional Life of Chef Steven Raichlen

Born in Japan and brought up in Maryland USA, Raichelen attended the Reed College in Portland, Oregon and obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in French literature. Thereafter he got a fellowship from Thomas J Watsom Foundation for pursuing studies in European medieval cooking as well as a Fullbright scholarship to pursue studies in comparative literature. He received training at Paris's two prestigious cooking schools namely- Le Cordon Bleu and La Varenne.

Award winning cookbooks that are translated into other languages authored by Steven Raichlen include-

  • High-Flavor, Low-Fat Cooking which won the James Beard award for Best Light and Healthy cookbook in 1993
  • High-Flavor, Low-Fat Vegetarian Cooking, which won the James Beard award for Best Vegetarian cookbook in 1996
  • Healthy Latin Cooking which won the James Beard award for Healthy Focus in 1999.
  • Healthy Jewish Cooking which won the James Beard Foundation/KitchenAid Book Award
  • BBQ USA which won the James Beard Award for Tools and Techniques in 2004

The classic book among his books is “The Barbecue Bible” which won the IACP Julia Child Award in 2003 containing culinary concepts gathered by the chef in course of 4 years of research from 25 countries across 5 continents travelled by him.

He won the "Cooking teacher of the Year" award from the Bon Appetit magazine in the year 2003.

Besides these Steven Raichlen is also a regular contributor for publications including Food and Wine, The New York Times, "Bon Appetit", Hemispheres and National Geographic Traveler magazine.

Chef Raichlen has appeared on many television shows including Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, Oprah, Regis & Kelly, The Today Show, Discovery Channel, CNN and The View.

  • Steven Raichlen is the current host of Primal Grill telecast for 3 seasons since 2008 over the PBS network which demonstrate grilling techniques from different countries.
  • He also hosts a French television cookery show called Le Maitre du Grill on the Zeste network in Quebec.
  • He is the creator of the Television show Barbecue University also called as BBQ U telecast on PBS network for 4 seasons between 2003 and 2006.

  • Rotisseried Leg of Lamb with Lemon and Butter is a recipe telecast in the second Season of BBQ U Season 2 in A Little Lamb Episode making use of whole lamb.
  • Caveman t-bones with hellfire hot sauce is a classic recipe by Steven Raichlen where the bone steaks are flavored with seasonings such as jalapeno peppers, garlic and cilantro after grilling.
  • Bed of Flaming Pine Needles is an appetizer containing mussels flavored with raspberry vinegar and melted butter.
  • Lamb on a Rod With Grilled Tomatoes and Peppers is a recipe telecasted in the fourth season of BBQ U in the Lamb episode where cut pieces of boneless lamb leg is threaded into skew and grilled with coating of seasonings.
