Soyabean Product

Soy bean product is an edible product made from soybeans, used as an ingredient in various dishes or consumed as it is. Soy beans are a high source of protein and substitute non-vegetarian food. These products are highly preferred by vegans and vegetarians.  The non fermented soy bean products include tofu, and soy milk. The fermented food products include natto, soy sauce, tempeh , and fermented bean paste.
 
Types
 
Soy Milk Soy milk is made of grounding the soaked soybeans and suspending it in water. The protein content in this soy bean product is equivalent to the protein in cow’s milk.
 
Nutritive value: It consists of  2% of fat, 0.5% of ash, and 2.9% of carbohydrates.
 
Some of the popular brands of soy milk are Silk, and VitaSoy.
 
Soy Protein :  It is a protein made from deffated, and dehulled soybean meal. It has gained immense popularity recently since it is being used extensively in health food products. It is used in salad dressings, cheeses, whipped toppings, infant formulas, soups, pastas, breakfast cereals, and pet foods.
 
Nutritive Value: It consists of 2gm of carbohydrates, 1 oz of soy protein consists of 96 calories, and 285 mg of sodium.
 
Tofu : Tofu or bean curd is made from the coagulation of soymilk and then pressing the curd into blocks. This further comes in a variety, including soft tofu, firm tofu, dry tofu, processed tofu, flavored, and fried tofu.
 
Nutritive value: 100 gm of tofu consists of 77 kcal, 8 gm of protein, 3 gm of carbohydrates, 0.4 gm of fiber, 46.0 gm of magnesium, 20 gm of vitamin C. Along with this, it is rich in vitamin B12, Vitamin B6, Thiamin, Niacin and Riboflavin.

 Soy Sauce : Soy sauce is made from the fermented paste of boiled soybeans. Soy sauce is dark brown in color, with a little salty taste. It is used mostly in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Vietnamese, and Burmese cuisine.
 
Nutritive Value: 100 ml of Soy Sauce consists of 60 calories, 1 gm of fat, 0.8 gm of fibers, 10.51 gm of protein.
