Shrimp Dumpling

Shrimp Dumpling or Shrimp Dimsum is made with minced and sautéed shrimps and can be eaten steamed or fried. Of course, the steamed ones are more healthy than the fried ones. The shrimp dumplings can be eaten as an appetizer with any sauce, can be added to a broth, or even added to a thick gravy and eaten as the main course.

Origin

Shrimp Dumpling is a traditional recipe from China.

Ingredients

peeled, washed and dried shrimp

green onions

carrots

fresh ginger

sesame oil

oyster sauce

wonton wrappers

Preparation

The total quantity of shrimp is divided into two parts. One part is minced in the food processor while the other part is diced into small pieces. The carrots, green onions and fresh ginger are finely chopped and mixed with the shrimp. This is seasoned with oyster sauce and sesame oil. The filling is now ready and is put in the centre of each wonton wrapper. The wonton wrappers are sealed securely with the sides moistened with little water. The bottom of the steamer is greased to avoid the dumplings from sticking to the base. Once the water starts boiling, the dumplings are placed inside the steamer, covered and cooked for about 10 minutes. The temperature should be approximately 160 degrees. Once ready the dumplings are firm yet soft and can be served with a sauce of one’s choice.
