Sea Fish

Sea fish, also commonly called as marine fish or saltwater fish, is a fish which is farmed in salt water ranging from shallow to deep ocean. Anchovy, angler, barracuda, blue fish, butterfish, cod, tuna, swordfish, sardines are examples of sea fishes.

 

 

Varieties of Sea Fish

 

Anchovy

Anchovy is a small forage fish found majorly in the Indian, Atlantic and Pacific oceans. It is a greenish blue fish. The size of the fish varies from 2 centimeters to 40 centimeters. It is classified as an oily fish.

Anchovy is used to make dishes like deviled eggs with anchovies. They are also used as an ingredient for salad and pasta.

 

Butterfish

Butter fish is a type of sea fish which is very high in fat content. It weighs approximately 2 pounds to 20 pounds. It is either cooked whole or smoked.

Misoyaki butterfish is made using a marinade made of miso, mirin and sake.

 

Cod

Cod fish is an Atlantic fish. It is available in different forms: fillets, whole, steak, etc. It is a very important source of vitamin A, D, E and omega 3 fatty acids.

Cod fish is battered as deep fried to make fried cod fish. Cod fish cakes are also very popular.

 

Salmon

Salmon is a very popular sea fish which is categorized as an oily fish. It is considered very nutritious. It is available in canned, frozen, smoked form

Smoked salmon salad, poached salmon, Salmon filet burger are popularly served dishes with salmon.

 

Sardine

Sardine is a long thin silver colored fish which is considered as one of the healthiest foods. It is also stated as the nutritional powerhouse. It contains very high levels of vitamin D and omega 3 fatty acids. Canned and frozen sardines are easily available.

Pasta con sarde, pan fried sardines are popular recipes made using sardine fish.

 

Tuna

Tuna is one of the most popularly served sea fishes of the world. The size of the fish is variable, the largest reported size till date is 458 centimeters. Numerous tuna products are available in the market including canned tuna, fillets, frozen, etc.

Tuna sandwich, casseroles, salads are popularly made dishes using tuna fish.

  • Sea fish contain high amount of proteins which are easily absorbed and digested by the body. They contain all the essential amino acids which make them a good quality protein. Taurine, an amino acid, is very essential for brain development in infants.
  • It is a very good source of omega 3 fatty acids which are very essential for maintaining the cholesterol levels in the body. It is also very essential for the brain development of the fetus, infant and growing children.
  • Vitamin A, D and E are abundantly found in sea fish which play multiple roles in bone strengthening, preventing night blindness, anemia, etc.
  • Sea fish is a very good source of iron which helps to maintain the hemoglobin levels in the blood.
