Roasted lentil is a roasted variant of any edible pulse. This legume lends itself to various dishes including dips, soups, salads, curries and even to dry dishes.

Lentils can be roasted either in oven or on a hot pan. Any kind of lentil including whole or split and with or without skin lentils can be roasted. Though lentils are generally roasted raw, some of the varieties required overnight soaking before being roasted.

 

Seasonings and herbs may also be added while roasting lentils, if they are to be used for snacking.

Roasted lentil paste is one of the popular ingredients used in cooking various dishes. Whole and split roasted lentils are often incorporated in salads to add a crunchy flavor. Snacking on roasted lentils is extremely popular in several cuisines.

 

Roasted lentils are often added with vegetables and meats to make a hearty dish. Rice, corns and even nuts go quite well in dishes prepared with roasted lentils.

  • Masoor – This is one of the most popular lentils used for roasting.  It has a brown skin with orange seed inside. Roasted masoor is commonly used for snacking when mixed with seasonings.
  • Macachiados – It is a popular Mexican lentil that is usually large in size. For roasting purpose, this lentil is an ideal option and it lends itself to various Mexican as well as dishes of other cuisines.
  • Black lentil – Also known as Beluga, this lentil is a very popular roasted variety. Curries snacks and salads are the commonly prepared dishes with this lentil.
