Pork Sauerkraut

Pork sauerkraut is basically a combination of pork and sauerkraut that is usually served as a main course but may also be served as a snack at any time of the day. Sauerkraut is shredded cabbage that is fermented by the use of different lactic acid bacteria. It is known for its long shelf life as a result of which it can be stored at room temperature for prolonged periods of time without getting damaged.
 
Preparing Pork Sauerkraut
Pork sauerkraut is made by combining various ingredients like bacon, pork, onion, apples and sauerkraut, which are baked in an oven. This dish has a distinctive flavor and unique taste due to the formation of lactic acid, which is formed when bacteria ferment the sugar. Primarily the process involves lacto-fermentation and the dish has indeed come a long way from its humble beginnings to become popular in different corners of the world.

This dish is considered to be a healthy alternative and is a good source of Vitamin C and other nutrients like lactobacilli. It is also known to have anti-cancer agents like isothiocyanates that help in reducing the impact of cancer causing cells and keep a person healthy. Experience had taught him that this dish helped in preventing scurvy among sailors when on long voyages. It was later proved that this was the case due to the presence of Vitamin C in this dish that helped in preventing cases of scurvy. Pork sauerkraut does not contain too much fat thereby making it ideal for people suffering from heart problems and those trying to lose weight.
